Over the Heel

One question I always ask my female clients is if they wear high heels, and if they do, I also ask how often and how high. Although after I put my hands on their lower legs, I sometimes know the answer before I hear it. Short and anemic calf muscles and the reduced range of motion of the ankle joints tell the story.

It's hard to imagine another action as contradictory to the foot's anatomical design, as walking on spikes. I get it, the high heels are stylish, sexy, and they make the wearer happy. But the unhappy party is the muscles and joints of the lower legs and feet.

And here's where I come in. My job, as a massage therapist, is not to shame you into changing your style, but to reverse the damage done to the body by the habits you might have acquired. Book online at www.breathespa.ca or call the Breathe Spa at 403-457-3060 and make an appointment with me for a therapeutic or a relaxation massage.

I promise not to lay guilt on you for wearing high heels. Instead I will stretch and strengthen the muscles and joints of your lower legs. They are crying out for help.
